As promised on Tuesday, today’s post is an open Q & A thread on the topic of SEO. This is where we can all help each other.
For Me
I’m considering turning the series into an e-book, so I would be really grateful to get some feedback from you on the series.
- What did you think of the series overall?
- Which section did you enjoy the most? Why?
- Which section did you enjoy the least? Why?
- Which areas do you think needs improvement/adding to?
- Any other comments are also welcome.
For You
Depending on your level of SEO knowledge, prior to reading this series, you may have had to absorb a lot of information. Here’s your chance to ask any questions, big or small, on any of the topics discussed.
- Keyword research
- Competition Research
- On and off page factors
- Link building
I’ll leave the post up for a week to give everyone a chance to have their say. So have at it

Hey Marc, I’m stuck on what to enter and where for meta data. I downloaded the SEOBook toolbar, and it says I have no meta description.
The All-In-One SEO plugin – I don’t understand what information it’s asking for. It seems to have been written for people who have an understanding of SEO and I don’t.
Also, when I write a post there’s a box there asking for Title, Description, Keywords and has the option to ‘disable’ for this post. No idea what it’s for either….
Links – are internal links worthwhile? As in, linking from one of my posts to another of my posts?
Help?

Ebook?! YAY! Know what I’d love? One hour’s free or half price personalised email (phone for me?) SEO coaching for the first people to download the ebook, so we can get talked through certain things and you can help us implement the steps, one at a time.
I think it might be an idea to write a chapter/section for Thesis users. We’re lucky because we don’t need the SEO plug in.
I enjoyed the whole series but I’m afraid I’m a slow burn when it comes to digesting all of the sections because I’m a real beginner. I can’t ask any useful questions (apart from that one I asked you before about how to check links stats.)
But here’s something you can be proud of, as my unofficial SEO coach. I was invited to be a guest on BBC 5 live this morning!! The producer found one of my posts through Google and emailed me! I made it keyword rich and the title Mary gave it got it to page one. Since reading your tutorials, I’ve also been remembering to fill in the meta description box and the keywords box. I’ve also been more careful with the Thesis option of alternative titles.
@ Mel,
Hi there! What a relief to know I’m not the only one who puts Help! at the end of most emails to Marc! Your post looks juicy; I’ll try and head over after I get dressed. (Last day of the ’staycation’.)
