Earth Day 2009

by Marc on April 22, 2009

Unofficial Earth Day Flag

May there only be peaceful and cheerful Earth Days to come for our beautiful Spaceship Earth as it continues to spin and circle in frigid space with its warm and fragile cargo of animate life.

- UN Secretary-General U Thant

Today, April 22nd is Earth Day. A day where we are inspired to raise awareness and appreciation for our environment. Said to have started in 1970 by a US Senator the tradition lives on even to this day as cities across the world recognise and celebrate it.

What It Means For Bloggers

No matter what topic you blog about;  writing,  sprituality,  motivation – use Earth Day as a launch pad for your next post. Find the angle and work it.

Today is the day we all kick writer’s block into touch.

Remember it’s all about raising awareness of the day itself as well as our environment. Spread the word to your network, get as many people involved as you can. Co-operative blogging at its finest!

Be A Part Of Something Big

EARTH DAY is the first holy day which transcends all national borders, yet preserves all geographical integrities, spans mountains and oceans and time belts, and yet brings people all over the world into one resonating accord, is devoted to the preservation of the harmony in nature and yet draws upon the triumphs of technology, the measurement of time, and instantaneous communication through space.

- Margaret Mead

With over half a billion people celebrating Earth Day in 175 countries, don’t you want to be able to look back and say, “I took part in that”.

Beautiful post, Marc, and the new site’s looking good! Thanks for inspiring me.

Here’s what I’m doing for Earth day – reaching out one hand of friendship from Scotland to you in Wales, and another to Mel in Australia….let’s see if we can all hug the world!

Thanks Janice.

A virtual hug, now that’s a great idea!

Melinda April 22, 2009 at 10:48 am

Hey, that’s a great idea Janice! And one right back at you! (((((hugs)))))

(((((hug)))) right back. :) (Oh, stop rolling your eyes, Marc. You’re as huggy as the next commenter. ;) We won’t spread it around the blogosphere, though. ) So, who, on which continent, are you two going to reach out and hug now? I really believe that teenagers and writers – especially freelancers – need extra hugs. SOOO tempting to get locked up tight, curled up in self exploration and cyberspace, anxiety and angst, exhaustion and financial worries.
