Meet Your Business’ Number 1 Killer: You

We have a saying in Aikido – “keep moving” – sound advice when it comes to self-defence, but it’s a principle that can be applied to all aspects of life including your business.

Why You Need to Move

Movement is one of the 7 characteristics of a living organism; no movement = death. The same goes for your business, if you don’t move, if you don’t do something, your business will wither and die.

I have to admit, I’ve been very indecisive over this blog, its direction, whether or not to give it a go etc. I have several ideas to implement, a few posts in draft status and I have taken a lot of inspiration from people in similar fields, but until recently something has always held me back – procrastination.

Procrastination is the number one killer of movement; indecisiveness will cost you.

How to Beat That Killer

In order to overcome procrastination we need to understand why we do it. Fear. Fear is the driving force behind indecisiveness; what if I’m wrong? what if I make a mistake? what if I fail?

That fear is enough to stop a lot of people but a famous guy once said:

I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.

Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.

~Thomas A. Edison

The key to beating it is to take action or as one name puts it, just do it. Are you holding off from writing that blog post? Trying to decide whether or not to get your website re-designed? Just do it!

It doesn’t have to be big movements such as a new marketing campaign or a new product launch, even tiny increments are steps in the right direction, the important thing is to stop procrastinating.

Now don’t go taking any action without due care, consideration needs to be given to your brand. However yet another famous guy once said:

The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.

~Walt Disney

So here I am, beating back procrastination on my blog. Why don’t you do the same for your business today. Or if you’re already good at “moving”, care to share any tips?

In the meantime I’ll leave you with more from Edison:

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.
